I hate this Ray Emery and Braden Holtby fight and I don’t know why.
Here is a video of Sidney Crosby fighting Brett Mclean without allowing him to defend himself. While I do not like what Crosby did, I understand this is something that happens in hockey.
I like goalie fights.
I remember this Patrick Roy and Chris Osgood fight as one of the best
things about the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings rivalry.
I usually don't even mind seeing a lopsided fight. I loved watching Zdeno
Chara fight when he was a Senator. His
size, power and intelligence have always fascinated me and I loved to see him
dismantle opponents.
The Emery/Holtby fight was different for me. Maybe because it was such a mismatch, or maybe because Emery did not give Holtby a chance to decline, or maybe it was the punches to the back of the head, but I feel this fight does not have a place in any sport.
My growing awareness of concussions also probably factors into my problem with this fight.
While I believe that fighting still has a place in hockey,
incidents like this challenge that belief.
The acceptance of fighting is probably the biggest debate in
hockey right now, and something I am personally struggling with. I will have more on this soon.
