Daniel Alfredsson wearing a jersey he never, ever wore.
After a bitter breakup with the Ottawa Senators, long-time captain Daniel Alfredsson will likely announce his retirement in Ottawa on Dec, 4.
I guess I can wear my Alfredsson jersey with pride again, right?
Alfredsson is unquestionably the most important player the Senators have ever had, and it's great to see him getting friendly with the Senators organization again. It's also wonderful to see the Senators and Alfredsson their issues behind them.
Will this gesture erase the fact that Alfredsson left Ottawa for Detroit and likely would have continued to play in the motor city if it weren't for his injuries? For me, I'm not sure yet.
I would like nothing more than to see Alfredsson back in the fold, but I would like to see a sincere, meaningful gesture to the fans of Ottawa from the former captain. It would be nice to see him take a roll in the organization, sign a ceremonial contract with the team, or even just deliver a really nice speech.
In the end, I'm looking forward to some healing so we all can forget that Detroit thing ever happened.
