As the Olympic in Sochi get underway the host country is taking a beating in the media for spewing sewage, unfinished hotel rooms and coloured water. With these failures in mind, lets take a look at how this blog would have covered the Vancouver Olympics on opening week in 2010.

We are in the middle of the worst Olympics ever.
No seriously, ask this guy, he writes for the Guardian.
Vancouver is too warm to host the Winter Olympics, it is raining, the transit system is terrible, and there is faulty wiring everywhere.
It is not just the British pointing out what a disaster these games are.
As the Washington Post notes, the torch malfunctioned and it is tucked away where nobody
can see it.
These truly are the "Glitch Games."
With people being injured at concerts, security threats to Vice President John Biden and incompetent biathlon starters, the Daily Mail reveals we are devolving into an authoritarian police state.
We can't even whitewash our problems properly.
The Vancouver Olympics clearly are a national embarrassment from which we will never recover. We have cemented our legacy as the only host country to ever be lambasted by foreign media.
There will be no moments of courage and love, tenacity and determination, last minute heroics, grace and perfection, or unscripted moments of joy.
Clearly, there is nothing to see here and everyone should just go home.
Let's take a look and see how this blog would have reviewed the 1936 Berlin summer games.
ReplyDeleteGood point. With all the hyperbole that goes into complaining about current Olympics, the tenancy is to gloss over the truly bad stuff like the anti-Semitism in Berlin. The fact that the Guardian actually suggested Vancouver was the worst Olympics is mind-boggling.
